TV Panel: Women Struggle, Amazon Attacks

The Newsmakers TV panel is back, with Josh, Kathryn, Laura and Nick diving into a couple of big local scoops, plus two big stories about the fight for gender equality in the Age of Trump.

Josh Molina leads off, breaking down his beat-the-world exclusive about Amazon eyeing prime space on State Street, a supreme irony given the online shopping behemoth’s huge role in helping to gut Santa Barbara’s prime retail district. Then Nick Welsh talks about his scoopy column disclosing that Supervisor Steve Lavagnino has quietly dumped his lifelong Republican voter registration, new evidence of the trouble GOP politicians face in California amid Donald Trump’s vicious demagoguery and unrelenting attacks on the policies and values of the Golden State.

Next up is Kathryn Barnes, with a report on Governor Jerry Brown signing state Senator Hannah Beth Jackson’s first-in-the-nation legislation that will require California corporations to have at least one woman on their boards of directors – and the almost certain legal challenges it will face. And amid the bitter Washington battle over Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, Laura Capps recounts her personal, behind-the-scenes Washington experience in previous high court battles – and looks at the huge significance of the current one.

It’s all right here, right now, on Newsmakers TV.
