New TV Season: Panel on Council, SBUSD, Supes & Homeless

Newsmakers TV returns this week for its sixth year – 11th season! – of inside analysis and behind-the-scenes commentary from Santa Barbara’s top journalists about the most important news events in our community.

Gwyn Lurie, editor-in-chief of the Montecito Journal, joins familiar faces Delaney Smith and Nick Welsh of the Santa Barbara Independent, Josh Molina of Noozhawk and moderator Jerry Roberts for candid conversation about local politics and public policy in the raw and unrehearsed spirit of newsroom gabfests throughout the land.

Josh leads off with a look at the new lineup on SB’s City Council, and the extent to which partisanship now shapes a purportedly non-partisan elected body. Then Delaney offers insight into how and why the school board chose a non-local search firm to select candidates for the soon-to-be-open post of SB Unified School District superintendent.

Gwyn updates how the First District supervisor’s race is playing in Montecito and talks about her paper’s upcoming one-on-one debate between incumbent Das Williams and challenger Laura Capps, before Nick sheds light on a low-profile but crucial conflict about state funding that pits advocates for the mentally ill against programs for the homeless.

It’s all here, right now on Newsmakers TV.
